The Diagnosis: The Slow Suicide of “No”
From the very beginning, we are taught to be life-negative. We are taught that the body is dirty, that pleasure is sin, that joy is frivolous, and that the world itself is a place of temptation to be transcended, not a gift to be celebrated.
This creates a deep, unconscious program that learns to say “No” to our own vital energy. When joy bubbles up, the “No” pushes it down. When love arises, the “No” makes us suspicious. - Look directly into your own eyes in the reflection.
- Begin to say “Yes!” out loud. Don’t say it from the throat; it must come from your belly, from your very guts.
- This “Yes” is total. It is “Yes” to your body as it is. “Yes” to your sexuality. “Yes” to your flaws. “Yes” to your beauty. “Yes” to your very existence. You are consciously, actively affirming yourself against all the condemnations you have ever absorbed.
Part 2: The Rehearsal of Joy (20 minutes):
- Immediately after the mirror, go into your room. For the next twenty minutes, you must act as if you are ecstatically, blissfully happy.
- You must fake it. Do not wait for the feeling to come. Start by forcing it. Jump. Dance wildly. Sing at the top of your lungs. Laugh for no reason. Shout “Yes!” to the walls.
- This will feel artificial and ridiculous at first. Your mind will tell you it’s insane. Do it anyway. The mind and body are a single mechanism. If you can force your body to go through the gestures of joy, the repressed joy inside you will have no choice but to follow. You are prying the door open for the real, imprisoned joy to rush out.
Part 3: The All-Day Watchfulness:
- This is the final, crucial step. For the rest of the day, you must become an alert watchman.
- The very moment you catch yourself slipping into a negative pattern—a complaint, a judgment, a cynical thought, a mood of sadness—you must stop it.
- Immediately, say “Yes” to the situation. If you cannot say “Yes” to the event itself (e.g., you are stuck in traffic), you must find something in that moment to say “Yes” to. “Yes, I have this moment to breathe.” “Yes, I can listen to this music.” You must find a way to bring the energy of affirmation back in, starving the old pattern of “No.”
