The challenge with alignment

When Familiar Poses Still Leave You Guessing

Am I doing this correctly?

You may know the names of the poses and be able to follow the sequence, but how do you know that the way you are doing them is right for your body? You may be able to copy the shape of a posture quite easily, yet still wonder whether you are using the right muscles, creating unnecessary tension, or simply relying on your flexibility to get there. If you are less flexible, you may feel a great deal in the posture; if you are very flexible, you may feel almost nothing. So what is the reference point? How do you know what is actually happening in your body?

This becomes even more important when you teach. You may know the posture and the alignment cues, but understanding the principles behind them allows you to see what is happening in each individual body and know how to guide the student from there.

The challenge is not simply creating the shape. It is understanding what is happening underneath it.

The Gap in the understanding

When You Learn the Shape, But Not the Posture

01

Copying without understanding

You learn the shape or follow the instructions without fully understanding what is happening in your body.

02

The Body Compensates

Your body finds its own way to create the shape, sometimes through unnecessary tension or effort.

03

You Lose Confidence in Our Practice

When things don't feel right and you don't understand why, you become uncertain about your practice and may eventually stop practicing.

When we don’t understand what is happening in the body, we lose the confidence to know what to adjust, when to go deeper, and when to ease off. This is what The Mastermap of Alignment is designed to change.

Introducing the program

The Mastermap of Alignment

24 Poses. One Journey from Pose to Presence.

The Mastermap of Alignment brings together 24 foundational yoga postures into one clear and practical way of understanding your body and your practice.

With 22 years of teaching experience, Deep Kumar guides you through alignment from the feet up, with the breath first—learning how the body is organised in each posture, how the joints are supported, how the muscles work, and how to recognise unnecessary effort.

Each lesson goes beyond simply learning the shape of a posture. You will understand what is happening within the body, why the posture is practised in a particular way, and how to use the breath and your own awareness as a guide.

As you learn the 24 postures and how they relate to one another, they become more than individual poses. They become a map for building a balanced, intelligent and sustainable yoga practice.

Ancient wisdom · Modern clarity · One pose at a time

Where physical precision becomes inner awareness

From Following Instructions To Reading Your Own Practice

Yoga is often learned by following instructions: place the foot here, move the knee there, lift the chest, lengthen the spine. These instructions can be useful, but they cannot account for every body, every breath, or every day.

The Mastermap teaches you to work with principles rather than depend on a fixed set of instructions. As you practise, you begin to recognise when to create more stability, when to soften, when to go deeper, and when to stop. You also learn the contraindications and considerations of each posture, so you can recognise when a posture needs to be modified, approached differently, or avoided altogether.

This gives you something more valuable than a collection of perfectly performed postures: the ability to adapt your practice to your own body.

With this approach, alignment becomes something you can apply whether you are practising alone, learning a new posture, working with a different body, or teaching someone else.

Deep Yoga, founder of Yoga New Vision, demonstrating a beginner yoga pose for flexibility to show safe alignment.

“Alignment creates the conditions in which breath, body, and attention can meet.“

The Mastermap of Alignment

One map that travels through every pose

What You Learn in a Yoga Alignment Course

A meaningful alignment course teaches principles you can carry from one shape to another, and from physical practice into quiet presence.

YNV Icon 01 — Build from the ground up
01

Build poses from the ground up through the feet, arches, legs, pelvis, spine, shoulders, neck, and gaze.

YNV Icon 02 Breath as feedback
02

Use the breath as immediate feedback for when to stay, adjust, or step back.

YNV Icon 3 Muscle work vs joint pressure
03

Recognise the difference between productive muscular work and pressure inside a joint.

YNV Icon 4 Natural curves of the spine
04

Preserve the natural curves of the spine instead of flattening or exaggerating them.

YNV Icon 5 Props
05

Use blocks, blankets, belts, towels, books, and walls as intelligent support.

YNV Icon 6 Absoring
06

Practice all four stages: entering, staying, leaving, and absorbing.

YNV Icon 7 Follow heart through movement
07

Follow the heart through folds, twists, and backbends so movement remains spacious.

YNV Icon 8 Observe without judgement
08

Observe the effect of a pose without judging the body, breath, thought, or feeling.

What many practitioners miss is that alignment is not static. The right depth today may be different tomorrow. A prop is not evidence that you have failed, and a deeper shape is not evidence that you have succeeded. The true measure is whether intelligence, breath, and presence can remain together inside the pose.

Begin exactly where you are

Who The Mastermap of Alignment Is For

Yoga teachers

Bring clearer foundational cues, intelligent variations, and stronger reasoning into your guidance.

03

Newer practitioners

Build sound habits early through observation, support, and breath-led practice.

04

Experienced practitioners

06

Curious students

Explore the meeting point between traditional Indian teaching and modern practical clarity.

A word for the hesitant

You Do Not Need to Be Advanced

The journey starts with Tadasana (mountain pose) because the most important foundations are already present in standing. You are never asked to force your body toward a final version. Props, bent knees, accessible variations, and breath checks are part of intelligent practice.

Six chapters · Twenty-four doorways

The Complete 24-Lesson Curriculum

The sequence moves from standing architecture through strength, surrender, backbending, witnessing, release, and deep rest. One chapter opens at a time.

The blueprint held within standing. What you discover here becomes the foundation beneath every pose that follows.

01

Tadasana

Mountain pose

The Organic Pose That Unlocks All Others

Build the body from the four points of each foot, find neutral pelvis, protect the knees, and use the breath as your measure.

02

Vrksasana

Tree pose

Rooted, Stable, Present Like a Tree

Balance safely, protect the standing knee, and bring the pelvis toward the front without sacrificing steadiness.

03

Utkatasana

Chair pose

The Strength That Protects Your Knees

Awaken the inner thighs and descend only as far as the diaphragm remains free.

04

Virabhadrasana I

Warrior I

Strength to Face Your Own Self

Establish a safe foot base, lift the lower back, and let muscular work return the mind to the body.

Experience strength without hardness and surrender without collapse through four essential standing poses.

05

Parsvottanasana

Intense side stretch

The Calming, Energising Side Stretch

Lead from the heart, protect the knee through the patella, and use support to keep the spine long.

Sense unequal weight, free the front knee, and extend through the arms without hardening the shoulders.

07

Trikonasana

Triangle pose

Align thigh, knee, and second toe, move from the hip, soften the ribs, and keep the neck spacious.

08

Adho Mukha Svanasana

Downward-facing dog

The Shape of Surrender

Rebuild the pose through the hands, shoulders, spine, pelvis, and breath, bending the knees whenever needed.

Respond to the patterns of modern life and let the heart lead without asking the lower back to carry the whole pose.

09

Bhujangasana

Cobra pose

The Art of Relaxed Alertness

Lift with the back muscles rather than the arms, support the lumbar when needed, and keep the throat soft.

10

Salabhasana

Locust pose

Undoing the Century of Rounded Shoulders

Work from the inner thighs, restore the shoulders, align the head, and release unnecessary tension in the toes.

11

Virasana

Hero pose

Sitting Your Way into Stillness

Create space for the knees, use height under the sit bones, and open both sides of the body evenly.

12

Ustrasana

Camel pose

Let the Heart Lead the Way

Keep the thighs behind the knees, the tailbone descending, and the heart lifted through entry and return.

Come closer to your centre, where rotation, core strength, backbending, seated alignment, and witnessing meet.

13

Marichyasana I

Marichi’s twist

Twist from the Core, Lengthen with the Breath

Find the heel distance that preserves breath and rotate in layers from the core to the gaze.

14

Navasana

Boat pose

When the Muscles Bring You Home

16

Dandasana

Staff pose

Explore how folds, shoulder opening, and adaptable core work create quietness while the breath remains free.

17

Janu Sirsasana

Head-to-knee pose

Folding into a Juicy Silence

Fold through a lifted heart, protect the knee, and let relaxed temples guide the depth.

18

Paschimottanasana

Seated forward fold

Where Body and Mind Meet

Recognise knee hyperextension, support the lumbar, and direct the stretch away from the sacrum.

19

Gomukhasana

Cow face pose

Connected Through One Breath

Root through the sit bones, soften the ribs, and use a towel or belt to make the bind honest.

20

Utthanpadasana

Raised leg pose

Gentle Lifts, Deep Core Healing

Protect the lumbar curve, bend the knees or work one leg at a time, and use gentle strength.

Prepare to release effort consciously, so stillness becomes something you can receive rather than simply the moment movement stops.

21

Pawanmuktasana

Wind-releasing pose

The Pose That Hugs You Back

Find the grip that keeps the temples relaxed and rest long enough to receive the effect.

22

Ardha Sarvangasana

Hatha Yoga vs Power Yoga A Yoga Teacher's Honest Guide to Choosing Your Practice

Founder and Lead Teacher, Yoga New Vision

Meet Your Teacher,
Deep Kumar

24 Poses. One Journey from Body to Presence.

Deep Kumar came to yoga not as a career, but as a calling. Born and raised in India, he trained in some of the most prestigious academies in the country before spending two decades founding schools, teaching thousands of students, and quietly refining what he believed yoga could truly be.

Yoga New Vision is his fourth school, and his most personal. It is the one he built when he finally had the clarity to offer yoga in its purest, most embodied form.

In the shala, Deep is unlike most teachers you have encountered. He carries the curiosity of a scientist and the warmth of a dear friend. He teaches with laughter, with precision, and with a genuine delight in watching something unlock in you. Many call him the laughter yogi, and when you experience a session with him, you will understand why.

His philosophy is beautifully simple: understand your body, understand your mind, and in that understanding, you are already transformed.

“Understand your body, understand your mind, and through that understanding, transformation begins.“

Ancient wisdom, taught with modern clarity

The School Behind the Course

At Yoga New Vision, we believe wisdom has many voices. The ancient teachings of Indian yoga speak to the soul. Modern science speaks to the body. Eastern philosophy maps the inner landscape. Western psychology and research give language to what we feel, live, and pass on. When all of these are honoured fully, something beautiful happens, not a compromise, but a coming home.

This is the heart of our YNV Method: a holistic yoga teacher training approach where Eastern wisdom meets Western science, where ancient philosophy meets modern psychology, and where timeless practice is illuminated by today’s research. We hold every tradition with equal reverence, drawing on the discoveries of three extraordinary scientists to deepen what yoga has always known.

What Students Say About Learning With Deep

Fifteen thousand students since 2009, in more than fifty countries, and five stars across Google, Yoga Alliance and Facebook. What moves us is not the number. It is the note that arrives from someone practising alone in a living room on the other side of the world, who has just understood a pose they have been doing for ten years.

Frequently Asked Questions

The course is described with its scope and limitations in full, because clear expectations are part of a learning space built on trust.

The Course and Its Purpose

The Mastermap of Alignment is a self-paced online yoga alignment course taught by Deep Kumar. Across 24 foundational poses and approximately two hours of video teaching, it bridges precise physical alignment, breath awareness, intelligent prop use, joint support, and the inward experience that remains after each pose.
No. The course is designed for both yoga practitioners and teachers. Practitioners can use it to understand their own poses more clearly, while existing teachers can refine foundational cues and variations. It does not qualify a new teacher or replace a complete yoga teacher-training program.
No. You do not need advanced poses or exceptional flexibility. The course begins with foundational standing alignment and includes lower variations, bent-knee options, and common props. The goal is to understand your structure and breath, not to force your body toward a standardized final shape.
The principles are taught through foundational poses commonly found in Hatha and Vinyasa practice. Because the course emphasizes feet, joints, pelvis, spinal curves, breath, props, and awareness, many of the principles can support thoughtful practice across different yoga styles.

Studying and Access

The total video runtime is approximately two hours across 24 lessons. Your actual learning time will be longer because the course is designed to be practiced, paused, and revisited. You may complete it intensively or spread it across several weeks or months.
The course is self-paced. There are no live sessions, cohort dates, or required attendance times. You can begin after enrollment and move through the lessons according to your own schedule.
You receive lifetime course access through your Yoga New Vision account. This allows you to repeat the full sequence or return to one pose whenever you need to review its alignment and practice guidance.
Videos are not downloadable and remain available for streaming through the online course platform during your lifetime access period. A downloadable workbook is included, covering the name, benefits, and contraindications of every pose in the course, so you can use it digitally or print it for your own reference.
Props are helpful but not all are required for every lesson. Deep uses items such as blocks, blankets, belts, towels, walls, and stacks of books to make poses more intelligent and accessible. You can begin with a mat and gather the relevant support before each lesson.

Safety, Certification, and Scope

Yes. Upon completing all 24 lessons plus 20 hours of personal practice, you can receive a 20-hour Yoga Alliance YACEP continuing education certificate through Yoga New Vision. Yoga New Vision is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School, and certification is available once your practice hours are recorded and submitted.
No. The course may deepen the alignment understanding of someone who already teaches, but it does not provide a teaching qualification. If you want to become a certified yoga teacher, explore Yoga New Vision's eligible 200-hour teacher-training program.
No. Some lessons include thoughtful modifications and general safety guidance, but the course does not diagnose conditions, prescribe rehabilitation, or provide individual therapy. Seek qualified medical or therapeutic guidance for injuries, recent surgery, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or other conditions that make a pose uncertain.
Come out of the pose and reassess. Deep distinguishes muscular work from pressure inside a joint and repeatedly uses the breath as feedback. Sharp pain, joint pressure, numbness, dizziness, or unusual symptoms are reasons to stop and seek appropriate professional guidance rather than push further.

Investment and Enrollment

The introductory investment is $79 USD. It includes the 24 lessons and lifetime access.
Yes. A 14-day refund window applies from enrollment, subject to the final published terms. Those terms should explain the request method and any eligibility conditions before the enrollment page goes live.
No. The Mastermap of Alignment uses direct enrollment. Once the checkout URL is added, you can join without an application or discovery call.
You can begin at any time after completing enrollment and receiving access to the course platform. There is no fixed cohort or start date.
