The practice you repeat deserves to be understood
Master the Alignments of Classical Sun Salutation: A 16-Lesson Online Sun Salutation Course
Twelve poses. One sequence. The journey to learn each pose correctly. Sun Salutation is more than a sequence of movements — how you practise it influences your body, prana, and mind. In this self-paced online course, Deep Kumar draws on 22 years of teaching experience to guide you through the Classical Sun Salutation, position by position and transition by transition, so you can practise and teach with greater clarity, safety, and confidence.

YOUR MIND
The challenge with sun salutation
You Know the Sequence. But Do You Know What Your Body Is Doing?
What if the practice you do to create balance is quietly creating imbalance?
Think about how you actually learned Surya Namaskar. In almost every vinyasa class, there is barely any time for a teacher to cue alignment. You know the pattern: inhale, arms up… exhale, forward fold… inhale, half lift… exhale, step back. Breath, pose name. Breath, pose name. That is the guidance.
But have you ever heard a teacher cue you with real precision? Told you exactly how to lift your arms without your lower back taking the strain? Exactly how to fold forward in a way that protects your knees and your spine, instead of loading them?
That precision is rare. And it is the difference that decides whether your practice heals you or slowly wears you down. Repetition does not correct itself. It reinforces. One round with compensation is harmless. A hundred rounds is called injury.
This matters even more when you teach. Every cue you give either protects your student or slowly harms them. Knowing the sequence is not the same as seeing what is happening inside it, and being able to guide the body in front of you, not just the breath count.
The challenge is not remembering the order. It is understanding what each position is asking of the body underneath it.
The gap in the understanding
When the Sequence Becomes Automatic
01
Once the order is memorised, the body no longer needs the mind to move through it, so the mind leaves and the movement continues without it.
02
Wherever strength or mobility falls short, the body borrows from somewhere else to complete the shape, most often the lower back, the wrists, or the neck.
03
Discomfort eventually surfaces, but with no single moment to point to, it rarely gets traced back to the pattern that built it.
When we do not understand how each position is organised in the body, the most repeated practice in yoga becomes the one most likely to wear us down. This is what Master the Alignments of Classical Sun Salutation is designed to change.
Introducing the program
Master the Alignments of Classical Sun Salutation
Twelve Poses. Twelve Teachings. One Complete Practice.
This course takes the sequence apart, teaches each position on its own terms, and then puts it back together as one continuous flow.
With 22 years of teaching experience, Deep Kumar guides you through the sequence the way he teaches it in the shala. He begins with the mistakes he has watched thousands of students make, then gives the correction, the adaptation, and the reason behind it. Foot placement before pose. Breath before speed. Understanding before flow.
Each lesson goes beyond learning the shape of a position. You will understand the alignment that supports it, the joint it puts at risk, the variations for tighter hamstrings, sensitive knees, or restricted shoulders, and the short cue that secures it.
And as the twelve positions come together, they become more than a sequence to repeat. Trust in the backbend. Humility in the fold. Release in the lunge. Courage in the plank. A new view in the inversion. Gratitude in the bow.
Ancient meaning · Modern clarity · One position at a time
Where physical precision becomes inner awareness
From Following the Flow to Understanding It
This course teaches you to work with principles rather than depend on a fixed set of instructions. As you practise, you begin to recognise when a knee needs to bend, when the back leg needs to lift, when the shoulders need to move away from the ears, and when to stop entirely. You also learn where each position becomes unsafe for your particular structure, and what to do about it.
It gives you the ability to adapt the sequence to the body you have today, which is not always the body you had yesterday.
It also travels. The foot alignment taught in the opening position is the same alignment you will use in every standing pose you ever practise. What you learn here does not stay inside Surya Namaskar.
“The journey is from pose to presence. Pose is a medium to bring a human into presence.“

One sequence, examined completely
What You Learn in a Sun Salutation Course
A meaningful alignment course gives you cues short enough to use mid-flow and reasons deep enough to trust.
Stand well before you move, building each foot on its two mounds and the centre of the heel, with a neutral pelvis above.
Recognise the four structural patterns that change how you enter the sequence: knock knees, bow legs, hyperextended knees, and pelvic tilt.
Create the standing backbend from the legs and the side body, so the lower back and the throat stay free.
Fold from the hip joints with the heart leading, bending the knees whenever the hamstrings ask for it.
Place the hands so the wrists, elbows, and shoulders are supported through plank, eight-limb pose, and downward-facing dog.
Lift in cobra through the back muscles rather than pushing with the arms, with the buttocks descending toward the heels.
Move through the transitions with control, since this is where most compensation hides.
Coordinate the breath once alignment is familiar, including where to inhale, where to exhale, and where to pause.
What many practitioners miss is how small the corrections are. A heel turned out a few degrees. A thumb moved slightly closer to the index finger. A back knee lifted rather than sinking. None of them look dramatic from the outside. All of them change where the weight travels, and across a few hundred rounds that difference becomes the whole practice.
Begin exactly where you are
Who This Sun Salutation Course Is For
You do not need open hamstrings, a strong plank, or years of practice. You need a mat, a little curiosity, and a willingness to slow down.
01
Know that the round you repeat every morning is serving you rather than slowly wearing on you.
02
Bring fewer, clearer cues into the sequence you lead in almost every class.
03
Build the sequence correctly from the start rather than unlearning it later.
04
Understand what speed asks of the wrists, shoulders, and lower back.
05
Find intelligent options for knees, wrists, necks, and lower backs that have something to say.
06
Discover what the twelve positions have always meant, not only how to perform them.
You Do Not Need a Strong Practice
The journey starts with standing, because everything the sequence needs is already present there. You are never asked to straighten a leg that does not want to straighten, or to hold a plank you cannot yet hold. Bent knees, lifted heels, knees on the mat, blocks, and stopping to breathe are all part of intelligent practice.
Sixteen lessons · One complete round
The Complete 16-Lesson Curriculum
The course moves in the order of the sequence itself, from standing through to the final bow, then adds the transitions, the breath, and two complete guided rounds. Each lesson stands alone, so you can return to a single position whenever it needs attention.

Meet Your Teacher,
Deep Kumar
Twelve Poses. One Journey from Body to Presence.
Deep Kumar came to yoga not as a career, but as a calling. Born and raised in India, he trained in some of the most prestigious academies in the country before spending two decades founding schools, teaching thousands of students, and quietly refining what he believed yoga could truly be.
Yoga New Vision is his fourth school, and his most personal. It is the one he built when he finally had the clarity to offer yoga in its purest, most embodied form.
What makes his teaching of Sun Salutation distinctive is where it starts. Not with the ideal shape, but with what he has actually watched happen in a room: the knee that drifts inward, the shoulder that creeps toward the ear, the lower back that takes the weight the legs should be carrying. He teaches the correction because he has seen the mistake, thousands of times, in thousands of bodies.
In the shala, Deep is unlike most teachers you have encountered. He carries the curiosity of a scientist and the warmth of a dear friend. He teaches with laughter, with precision, and with a genuine delight in watching something unlock in you. Many call him the laughter yogi, and when you experience a session with him, you will understand why.
“Understand your body, understand your mind, and through that understanding, transformation begins.“
Ancient wisdom, taught with modern clarity
The School Behind the Course
Yoga New Vision has refined its heart-led approach through years of teaching many bodies, cultures, and ways of learning.
At Yoga New Vision, we believe wisdom has many voices. The ancient teachings of Indian yoga speak to the soul. Modern science speaks to the body. Eastern philosophy maps the inner landscape. Western psychology and research give language to what we feel, live, and pass on. When all of these are honoured fully, something beautiful happens, not a compromise, but a coming home.
This is the heart of our YNV Method: a holistic approach where Eastern wisdom meets Western science, where ancient philosophy meets modern psychology, and where timeless practice is illuminated by today’s research. We hold every tradition with equal reverence.

What Students Say About Learning With Deep
Fifteen thousand students since 2009, in more than fifty countries, and five stars across Google, Yoga Alliance and Facebook. What moves us is not the number.
