How to Plan Your Trip to Bali for Yoga Teacher Training

Planning a trip to Bali for yoga teacher training requires five steps: secure your school and dates at least 3 months ahead, complete the 2026 three-part Bali digital entry process before landing, arrange your airport transfer from Ngurah Rai to Ubud, prepare your nervous system rather than just your body, and pack for a 22-day immersion, not a vacation.

I have sat with thousands of students who arrived in Bali anxious, overpacked, and underslept. After 16 years of running yoga teacher trainings here, I can tell you the students who struggle most are not the ones who came unprepared for the practice. They are the ones who did not prepare for the journey itself.

This guide fixes that. Not because I like writing guides, but because I have watched people land at Ngurah Rai with jet lag so bad they could barely hold downward-facing dog on day one. That should not happen to you.

Whether you are traveling from the UK, Australia, the USA, or anywhere else, the planning process is the same five steps. Let me walk you through each one.

Why Ubud Is the Right Location for a 200-Hour YTT

Bali has several areas popular with international travelers. Ubud sits in the island’s spiritual interior, surrounded by rice paddies and jungle. Canggu is coastal, popular with digital nomads, and very much built around a social nightlife culture.

For a 22-day immersive 200-hour yoga teacher training, Canggu is a genuine distraction risk. You will be waking at 7am for pranayama, studying philosophy through the evenings, and asking your nervous system to do serious inward work. You need stillness around you, not a club two streets over.

Ubud is not just our preference. It is the correct environment for the depth of work a legitimate YTT requires. The Balinese Hindu culture here lives quietly alongside you. You practice Hatha Vinyasa in open-air shalas with rice paddy views. That environment does something to a student that a rooftop studio in Canggu simply cannot.

Step 1: Choose Your School Before You Book Flights

The number one planning mistake I see every year: students book flights first, then look for a school. Do it the other way. The school determines everything, including the dates, the location, and whether the experience actually changes you.

The best time to do yoga teacher training in Bali is between May and October. Bali’s dry season runs through these months, with July and September offering the best balance of clear skies and manageable tourism. July is also the most popular season, so cohorts fill fast.

When evaluating schools, check these four things: whether they are Yoga Alliance registered (Yoga New Vision has maintained this registration continuously since 2011), whether class sizes are intentionally small (our cap is 25 students by design), who actually teaches (I personally lead every 2026 training from the first morning), and whether real pre-arrival support exists.

Step 2: Handle Bali’s 2026 Entry Requirements Before Anything Else

The exact 2026 requirement for international arrivals is a three-step digital process: pay the $10 Bali Tourism Levy via the Love Bali portal, apply for the $35 e-VOA (Electronic Visa on Arrival, valid 30 days), and complete the Electronic Customs Declaration within 72 hours of landing for a fast-exit QR code. Complete all three at least 48 hours before your flight.

Do not mix up the Tourism Levy and the e-VOA. They are two separate payments on two separate government platforms. The Love Bali portal handles the levy. The Indonesian government’s official immigration site handles the e-VOA. Many students make the mistake of thinking one covers the other.

If your training and post-training travel will exceed 30 days, apply for the B211A Social Visa through an Indonesian consulate before you leave home. It allows up to 60 days with extension options. For our 22-day training, most students need only the standard e-VOA.

One more thing worth knowing: Indonesian immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds at the airport. Carry a bank statement showing the equivalent of $2,000 USD. Most students are never asked for it. But having it takes 30 seconds and could save an unnecessary conversation at customs.

Step 3: Getting from Denpasar Airport to Ubud

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar is approximately 36 kilometers from central Ubud. The transfer takes 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic. Yoga New Vision opens a pre-arrival WhatsApp coordination group one week before training begins. Students confirm their arrival time and the school arranges a shared airport transfer directly.

Before you exit arrivals, stop at a Telkomsel booth inside the terminal. A local Indonesian SIM card with data costs under $5 and covers your entire stay. This is far cheaper than international roaming and sets up WhatsApp, which is how everything in Bali operates, from restaurant bookings to driver coordination.

Arrive at least one full day before your training starts. This is not optional advice. Bali sits 8 to 15 time zones ahead of most of our students’ home countries. You will not sleep well on the plane. Give your body one night to recalibrate before you are expected on the mat at 7am.

Step 4: Prepare Your Nervous System, Not Just Your Body

Every generic travel blog will tell you to do 50 chaturangas a day in the weeks before your training. That advice is wrong for what actually happens in a 22-day immersion.

The real challenge is not your wrist strength or flexibility. It is nervous system shock: the long-haul flight, the dramatic time zone shift, the sensory change of arriving in tropical Bali. In the 7 days before departure, prioritize deep sleep, consistent hydration, and 10 minutes of Nadi Shodhan (alternate nostril breathing) each morning. Grounding breathwork prepares your nervous system for immersion in a way that 50 extra chaturangas never will.

If you want to do something physically useful beforehand, work on wrist and knee mobility. These are the two areas our physiotherapist team consistently sees students struggle with early in the training. Five minutes of wrist circles and gentle knee rotation daily for the 3 weeks before arrival makes a real difference by week two.

Step 5: Pack Light. Treat It as a Practice in Aparigraha.

In yogic philosophy, Aparigraha means non-attachment. Most students arriving for the first time ignore this completely. I have watched people wheel in suitcases so heavy they needed help getting them into the transfer van. Then they tell me on day 15 that those clothes are still folded and untouched.

Here is what you actually need for 22 days in Ubud:

  • 5 to 7 sets of breathable yoga wear
  • 1 to 2 casual outfits for free time in town
  • A light shawl for philosophy sessions when the fan makes the room cool
  • Basic toiletries including mosquito repellent and sunscreen
  • A universal power adapter (Bali uses Type C and F sockets)
  • A lightweight refillable water bottle
  • A notebook, you will use it more than anything else you pack

Ubud has excellent laundry services within walking distance of Omham Retreat, charging roughly $1 per kilo. Wash every 3 days and you never need more than a week’s worth of clothes.

Yoga New Vision provides your yoga mat, props, all course materials, 3 vegetarian or vegan meals daily, filtered drinking water, and WiFi. The only thing this training does not hand you is your passport and a willingness to be changed by it.

The True Cost of a Bali Yoga Teacher Training Trip

A 200-hour YTT at Yoga New Vision for 2026 costs $2,999 for the shared room early bird package, which includes 21 nights twin-sharing at Omham Retreat and 3 daily meals. The single room early bird is $3,999. Course-only without accommodation starts at $1,999.

Add to that: flights (roughly $800 to $1,500 from the USA or Europe, $300 to $600 from Australia), the $45 in total entry fees (e-VOA plus Tourism Levy), a SIM card, and personal spending outside the retreat. Budget $150 to $200 for the full 22 days outside your meals.

For comparison: a training of equivalent depth in London, New York, or Sydney would cost $4,000 to $8,000 for tuition alone, without accommodation. The Bali all-inclusive package with flights from most Western countries is frequently the more affordable option, not just the more beautiful one. Every 2026 student also receives free 12-month access to a 50-hour Yin Yoga certification course worth $599.

You can secure your spot with a $500 deposit and pay the balance in two installments.

What Happens Before You Even Arrive

Two weeks before your start date, Yoga New Vision hosts a live video welcome call for your entire incoming cohort. You meet your future training partners, ask any remaining questions, and arrive on the first day already knowing faces. Sadhana Om runs every one of these calls personally.

I have watched this call change the entire energy of a cohort’s first day. A 55-year-old woman arriving alone from the UK told me she was about to cancel her spot because she was terrified of being the oldest person in the room. After that call she realized she was not alone. She became one of the most powerful presences in the training.

One week before arrival, your YNV WhatsApp coordination group opens. Airport transfers are arranged, packing questions are answered, and the team makes sure your first hour in Bali feels easy and welcoming. You just need to get on the plane.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the best time of year to do yoga teacher training in Bali?

The best time is between May and October, during Bali’s dry season. July and September offer the ideal balance of clear weather, manageable tourist numbers, and optimal temperature for daily outdoor practice. Yoga New Vision runs 22-day cohorts in both months at Omham Retreat in Ubud, with intentionally limited spots per batch.

  1. What visa do I need for yoga teacher training in Bali in 2026?

For a 22-day training, most nationals need the e-VOA (Electronic Visa on Arrival) costing $35 USD, valid for 30 days. You must also pay the $10 Bali Tourism Levy on the Love Bali portal and complete the Electronic Customs Declaration before landing. Complete all three steps at least 48 hours before your flight for smooth entry.

  1. How far is Bali airport from Ubud for yoga teacher training?

Ngurah Rai International Airport is approximately 36 kilometers from Ubud. The transfer takes 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic, which varies significantly in Bali. Yoga New Vision coordinates shared airport transfers through a pre-arrival WhatsApp group that opens one week before your training start date. You confirm arrival time and the team handles logistics.

  1. Can a complete beginner join a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Bali?

Yes, absolutely. Many Yoga New Vision graduates arrived with under one year of practice, and some had never taken a formal class before. The training meets you where you are. What matters is honesty with your body and genuine openness to learning. A beginner’s mind is not a disadvantage here; it is often your greatest asset.

  1. How far in advance should I book a Bali yoga teacher training?

Book at least 3 months before your preferred start date. Quality trainings fill significantly in advance, and booking early also gives you better flight pricing. Yoga New Vision’s July and September 2026 cohorts are currently enrolling. July is already down to its final few spots, as it is the peak dry season month in Ubud.

  1. Is Bali safe for solo female travelers attending yoga training?

Yes. Bali is widely recognized as one of the safest destinations for solo female travelers globally. Attending a residential immersive training means you immediately have a community around you. Yoga New Vision students travel from over 6 countries each cohort, and a significant portion arrive entirely alone. The pre-arrival welcome call helps this feel normal before you land.

  1. What should I pack for a 22-day yoga teacher training in Bali?

Pack 5 to 7 sets of breathable yoga wear, 1 to 2 casual outfits, light toiletries, a universal power adapter, a refillable bottle, and a notebook. Ubud laundry services charge around $1 per kilo. Yoga New Vision provides yoga mats, props, all course materials, and 3 vegetarian or vegan meals daily, so you genuinely need very little beyond clothing.

  1. How do I prepare physically for yoga teacher training in Bali?

In the 7 days before departure, focus on sleep, hydration, and 10 minutes of Nadi Shodhan breathwork each morning. The real challenge is nervous system adjustment from travel, not physical fitness. For targeted physical preparation, daily wrist and knee mobility work for 2 to 3 weeks before arrival is the most useful thing you can do for your first week of practice.

  1. What is included in an all-inclusive yoga teacher training package at Yoga New Vision?

The shared room early bird package ($2,999) includes 21 nights twin-sharing at Omham Retreat in Ubud, 3 vegetarian or vegan meals daily, full course tuition, course materials, a Yoga Alliance 200-hour certificate, and a free 50-hour Yin Yoga online course worth $599. Airport transfers are arranged separately through the pre-arrival WhatsApp coordination group.

  1. What happens if I need to cancel my booking?

Your $500 deposit is fully transferable to any future Yoga New Vision training within 12 months of your original booking date. The team works with you directly to find a solution that feels fair, not just logistically correct. Reach out to info@yoganewvision.com directly if your plans change and someone will respond personally, not via an automated system.
