If you found my name in an old Yoga East West video, post or tagged photograph, and then arrived at Yoga New Vision, you may be wondering how the two connect.
The short answer: I am Deep Kumar, founder and program director of Yoga New Vision in Ubud, Bali, where I teach today. I began developing an East-West approach to yoga in 2008. In 2018 I brought my teaching system into Yoga East West and led its original teacher training. In 2022 I continued that work independently, and the Yoga New Vision name began.
This page explains each chapter in order, in my own words.

What Is the Connection Between Yoga East West and Yoga New Vision?
They are two chapters of my teaching journey, with different names and identities. I began developing my East-West approach to yoga in 2008 and began my teacher-training work in 2009. In 2018, I brought the teaching system I had developed into Yoga East West and led its original teacher training. In 2022, I continued that work independently through Yoga New Vision.
The teaching vision behind both chapters is older than either name. For years I have worked on one question: how can the depth of Eastern yoga wisdom meet the knowledge of the modern world? On one side are traditional yoga philosophy, Hatha Yoga, meditation and pranayama. On the other are anatomy, physiology, psychology, body awareness and modern education.
I never saw these as opposing worlds. I saw a chance for them to meet.
A note on names: Yoga East West is also presented publicly as East+West Yoga. I use “Yoga East West” throughout this article because it is the name many students encounter in older videos, posts and training listings.
Who Is Deep Kumar?
I am a yoga teacher and teacher trainer. My teaching joins traditional yoga with a modern understanding of the body and mind.
My formal yoga education began in 1994 at Tapovan Dhyan Dham Vidhyapeeth, a traditional ashram in the Himalayan foothills, and advanced teacher training at Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute followed. I am an ERYT 500 teacher trainer with Yoga Alliance.
I am not only a name from an older chapter. I lead the teaching at Yoga New Vision today.
Where the East-West Vision Began
In 2008, I began developing my approach to bringing East and West together through yoga.
I wanted to keep the essence of traditional yoga and still make it understandable and practical for people living in the modern world. Traditional yoga already holds deep knowledge of the body, breath, mind, awareness and consciousness. Modern science and psychology offer different languages for exploring many of the same human experiences.
I never saw these as opposing worlds. I saw a chance for them to meet.
I kept studying, teaching and refining the approach. My classes slowly became a meeting point between traditional yogic knowledge and modern understanding, and students began describing that quality themselves. By the time a teacher-training school became possible, this was no longer just an idea. It was a body of teaching built through years of experience.
My teacher-training work began in 2009. A student who trained with me in 2018 and later assisted in 2019 and 2024 also writes that I have led teacher trainings since 2009.
When did Deep Kumar begin developing his East-West vision?
In 2008. That year I began consciously developing a way of teaching that brings Eastern yoga wisdom together with modern understanding of the body and mind.
2016: The Beginning of a New Chapter
In 2016, Adam attended one of my yoga courses in Bali. That meeting eventually led to a conversation about creating a yoga school and teacher-training program in Malaysia.
By then I had been leading teacher trainings for years, in India, Malaysia and Bali. What Adam and I discussed was a new school. Its educational system, curriculum and method of teaching still needed to be built.
I already had years of teaching experience and a complete approach to yoga education that I had been developing since 2008. That became the foundation I brought into the project.
2018: Deep Kumar and Yoga East West
In 2018, the school that became known as Yoga East West began taking shape. The name developed through the collaboration around creating the school. The East-West teaching vision itself was something I had been developing for years.
When I joined, I brought the complete teaching system I had built through study, practice and teaching. It included:
- The teacher-training curriculum
- The teaching methodology
- The course structure and timetable
- The philosophy behind the training
- The class structure
- The teaching manual
- The practical approach to asana and alignment
- The integration of meditation and pranayama
- The knowledge and experience I had gathered through years of teaching
I did not offer a few ideas or individual classes. I brought an established way of teaching and a full educational framework.
I then became the lead trainer and led the first teacher-training program.
My school registration with Yoga Alliance dates to 2011. That registration predates the Yoga East West chapter described here and forms part of the longer history of my teacher-training work.
What was Deep Kumar’s role in Yoga East West?
I was the lead trainer of the first Yoga East West teacher-training program. I brought the curriculum, methodology, manual, timetable and teaching framework that I had developed through years of study and teaching.
Public listings confirm the teaching part of this. A July 2019 LA Yoga Magazine feature on the East+West trainings named me among the classically trained master teachers from India. A BookYogaRetreats listing for a 200-hour training near Ubud also names me as one of its Indian teachers.
Those pages show where I taught. They do not describe where the curriculum came from, which is why this article gives my own account of it.
What Deep Kumar Was Teaching
A good teacher training has to turn knowledge into understanding. That belief shaped everything I taught.
Students needed to learn what a yoga posture is, and also how to understand the body performing it. They needed to learn how to practice a breathing technique, and also how breath influences awareness. They needed to know what the Yoga Sutras say, and how their psychology can be experienced in everyday life. And they needed to learn how to teach a sequence while staying sensitive to the individual student in front of them.
So the East-West approach was never about placing Eastern and Western information side by side. It was a genuine dialogue: ancient wisdom and modern science, experience and understanding, body and mind, practice and awareness.
2018 to 2022: Developing and Refining the System
From 2018 through 2022, I continued teaching and developing the training. The goal stayed the same: students who understand the body in a posture, the breath in a technique, the psychology in a text and the person in front of them.
I treated anatomy, breath, philosophy and teaching practice as parts of one conversation rather than separate subjects.
2022: The Birth of Yoga New Vision
In 2022, I decided to continue my journey independently. That was when the Yoga New Vision name began.
I did not feel I was beginning again. I was continuing. Everything I had learned through decades of practice and teaching, and everything I had developed in earlier chapters, became the foundation.
Independence also gave me the freedom to develop the work in my own direction. I could keep questioning, refining and teaching what I had learned through the earlier chapters of my journey. Yoga New Vision became the space where that work could keep developing.
There is a simple way to understand the dates. I began developing my East-West vision in 2008. My teacher-training work began in 2009. My Yoga Alliance school registration dates to 2011. The Yoga East West chapter began in 2018. The Yoga New Vision name and my independent chapter began in 2022.
So 2009 and 2022 do not describe the same thing. One marks the beginning of my teacher-training work. The other marks the beginning of Yoga New Vision as the name and independent chapter of my work.
Did Deep Kumar start Yoga New Vision?
Yes. I began Yoga New Vision in 2022 as the next chapter of my teaching journey, built on the East-West vision I started developing in 2008.
Is Yoga New Vision the Same as Yoga East West?
No. Yoga East West and Yoga New Vision are separate chapters with different names and identities. Yoga New Vision began independently in 2022, and the teaching vision behind it began in 2008, before either name existed.
My account connects my earlier teaching work with what I teach now. Yoga East West continues to offer its own teacher trainings, and its current programs are listed on the East+West Yoga website. This article speaks only for my part in that story.
Why Students Still Discover Deep Kumar Through Yoga East West
Recently, during one of our teacher-training programs, a student told me she had been exploring Instagram and looking through tagged photographs connected with Yoga East West. As she went further back, she found my name and my involvement in the earlier training. That helped her see the link between that history and Yoga New Vision.
Another student described a similar discovery. Both had started with Yoga East West. Their research led them to Yoga New Vision and the history behind the teaching.
It reminded me that people who find our work today want to know where it came from. Old posts, tagged photographs and public listings stay online long after a chapter ends. So I decided to document the story.
My aim is not to create conflict or take anything away from anyone. It is to make my own professional journey clear.
What Yoga New Vision Represents Today
Yoga New Vision brings together the many dimensions of my teaching: Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa, meditation, pranayama, yoga philosophy, anatomy, alignment, psychology, body awareness and consciousness.
The intention is not to create another rigid yoga style. It is to help students and teachers understand the principles of yoga well enough to teach with intelligence, sensitivity and awareness.
So we study the body without reducing yoga to anatomy. We study psychology without forgetting consciousness. We study philosophy without leaving it inside a book. We practice asana without turning yoga into performance. We treat breath as both physiology and a doorway to awareness, and we place meditation at the center of learning.
The school is based in Ubud, Bali, and I teach there with co-founder Sadhana Om and a faculty team. One 2026 Google review credits Sadhana and me with bringing the Eastern and Western worlds together. More reviews are on the Student Stories page.
You can meet the teachers or read the school’s mission and history. The programs are the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Bali and the 300 hour advanced training. Both appear on the school’s Yoga Alliance profile.

The Vision Continues
I am grateful for every chapter of this journey. The students, the teachers, the places, the opportunities, the challenges and the lessons have all shaped the teacher I am today.
Yoga New Vision is not the beginning of my journey. It is the continuation of a vision built through years of teaching, learning and experience. It began with the meeting of East and West, and it keeps evolving.
